2010 NFL Draft Picks
Written by on 04/22/2010
1. St. Louis Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma Just a few months ago, the number one picked seemed locked down. And it wasn’t this guy. But Bradford receiving a clean bill of health coupled with St. Louis’s burning desire to make a splash their fans could get behind changed the order of the draft. He may be a sexier pick than the next two guys, but he isn’t as safe. 2. Detroit Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska Back when Suh was terrorizing Big 12 quarterbacks and making Colt McCoy run for his life, this guy seemed like a safe pick to build a team around. And while he’s not number one on Thursday, he’s still a cornerstone. 3. Tampa Bay Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma Unless he is snapped up by Detroit, expect this perfect 3-technique player to go Tampa, who has needed a player of his talents since the departure of Warren Sapp. 4. Washington Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St. With Donovan McNabb on board, the Redskins don’t seem as likely to trade up in the draft. McNabb doesn’t have many great options at receiver, so he is going to need time to create. Okung should help give him that time. 5. Kansas City Eric Berry, S, Tennessee The Chiefs need line help, but if the Skins go with Okung, the Chiefs will likely go with the best available player. Already compared to names like Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu, Eric Berry seems like a can’t-miss prospect. 6. Seattle Cory Spiller, RB, Clemson No telling what Pete Carroll will do with his first NFL pick in a decade. With Walter Jones retiring, the Seahawks will need help up front, but Spiller seems like an ideal Carroll-style back and would fill arguably the teams second biggest need. 7. Cleveland Earl Thomas, S, Texas The Browns may be tempted to take Dan Williams here as an anchor for their 3-4 defense, but if they look around their division, they will see that ball hawks help teams win and there is not much of a better one than Earl Thomas. 8. Oakland Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa Trying to figure out what Al Davis is going to do is like trying to predict the path of a tornado. You just sit back and watch him work his black magic. Rolando McLain may be the most NFL-ready guy in the draft, but he does not fill a big need. If the Raiders ever get a QB worth protecting, having Bulaga around would be a good first step. 9. Buffalo Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee The Bills also have QB and OL needs but Williams would be a great asset in the Bills 3-4. 10. Jacksonville Derrick Morgan, DE/OLB, Georgia Tech The Jags look like they bust with the eighth overall pick in the 2008 when they selected DE Derrick Harvey. They’ll try again with Morgan, who is the best pure end in this draft. 11. Denver Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama The Broncos need to replace what they lost when Brandon Marshall was let go, but they need to replace his production, not his headline-making diva behavior. Expect McClain to go here and fill the Broncos’ biggest need. 12. Miami Jerry Hughes, DE, TCU Some question whether he has the necessary tools to be an effective DE in the pros, but anyone who watched Jerry Hughes knows that is a ridiculous conversation. 13. San Francisco Joe Haden, CB, Florida Some question whether the Niners will go after Jimmy Klausen. If San Francisco thought they had a problem at quarterback, they would have addressed it by now. Expect them to be happy taking the best cover corner in the draft. 14. Seattle Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St. Carroll may get lucky and see Bryant fall this far. He’s not scared of highly skilled players with highly refined egos. He will still have defensive holes to fill, but if Bryant makes it to Carroll, he’ll gladly take him. 15. N.Y. Giants Jason Pierre-Paul, DE/OLB, South Florida Pierre-Paul is a raw talent with only one season of Division I under his belt. But when people are comparing you to Jevon Kearse, you’ve got game. 16. Tennessee Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan Jeff Fisher needs some youth to rejuvenate his line, and Graham would be a great pick here. 17. San Francisco Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers At No. 17, Davis is the best tackle left on the board, and the Niners have a hole to fill on the right side. 18. Pittsburgh Maurkice Pouncey, C/G, Florida The Steelers start the season with a big question mark at quarterback. Whoever is back there is going to need some protection, and Pouncey can provide that. 19. Atlanta Sergio Kindle, DE/OLB, Texas Kindle should be able to provide pressure off the edge. While some question his size, he has gotten better each season at Texas and averaged eight sacks a game there as a starter. 20. Houston Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State Dunta Robinson’s departure has the Texans, who always seem to be looking for backfield help, especially sensitive to that need now. If Spiller was to fall this far, the Texans would gladly take him, but I don’t see it happening. 21. Cincinnati Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma After losing every end to injury at some point last season, the Bengals would love to get their hands on Gresham. If his injury history scares them, they could opt for Florida’s Aaron Hernandez. 22. New England Look for Belichick to nab some blocking and possession help for Brady with either Gresham or Hernandez here. 23. Green Bay Mike Iupati, G/T, Idaho I hope the Packers offensive line bought Aaron Rodgers a watch after last season, becase they were responsible for some serious time on the ground for the QB who was sacked 50 times. 24. Philadelphia Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama The Eagles will likely try and trade up to grab one of the bigger name DBs in the draft, but will happily take Jackson if they aren’t able to move up. 25. Baltimore Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State The tough get tougher as the Ravens, one of the few teams that still feels you win with running and defense, takes Odrick. 26. Arizona Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri With Karlos Dansby gone, the Cards will look toWeatherspoon to shift inside. 27. Dallas Charles Brown, OT, USC With Jimmy Clausen still on the board here, there could be teams looking to trade to this spot to nab him. While Jerry Jones would be happy with Brown or Indiana’s Roger Saffold, he would likely take later round picks to fill out the roster on one of the most talented teams in football. 28. San Diego Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State Darren Sproles is not an every down back and the LT days are over, so expect the Chargers to take the best running back available here. 29. N.Y. Jets Lamarr Houston, DT, Texas May be a reach here but he was a leader of a solid Longhorn defense and could help fortify the Jets in the middle and even provide protection and running lanes at the fullback position. 30. Minnesota Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame A Notre Dame quarterback playing back-up to Mr. All-America Brett Favre? Sounds too good to be true, but if Clausen makes it past the Bills, this could be a perfect mentor-student situation, as long as it only lasts a year. 31. Indianapolis Bruce Campbell, T/G, Maryland With Manning get on in years a little, the Colts are looking to fortify their line with big, strong guys. Campbell fits that description. 32. New Orleans Daryl Washington, LB, TCU Could Washington be a more athletic version of the departed Scott Fujita? The Saints will hope so. Click for today's sports picks and today's sports odds.
